A globally sought-after healthcare industry professional with over three decades of experience, James D. Dawes, MHA, CMPE, COE, provides strategic, operational and management guidance to help ambitious physicians and medical groups develop practices of distinction and excellence in the area of Lifestyle Medicine.  Mr. Dawes also provides business and product development advice to medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Mr. Dawes holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a bachelor’s degree in physiology, both from Oklahoma State University. He is board certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) and earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Mr. Dawes has achieved the status of Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) by the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators and obtained Candidate status with the Certified Commercial Investment Member Designee (CCIM).

In 2003, Mr. Dawes joined Center For Sight as Chief Administrative Officer. In this role, Mr. Dawes was responsible for the marketing, business development and corporate administration of Center For Sight, the Center For Sight Foundation and all affiliated companies. During his tenure with Center For Sight, Mr. Dawes led the practice to achieve significant organic growth as well as corporate expansion through strategic acquisitions, optimizing operational functions, marketing, and patient experience management.  With his operational guidance and healthcare facility design, construction and development expertise, Center For Sight has become one of the leading multi-physician vision, cosmetic, dermatology, and skin care practices in the United States.

Prior to his position with Center For Sight, Mr. Dawes was a business and physician development executive with Sentara Healthcare, one of the nation's premier integrated healthcare delivery systems. Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the organization includes multiple acute care hospitals, advanced imaging centers, outpatient campuses, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, home health and hospice agency, and multi-specialty physician groups.

Mr. Dawes is an Advisor to Parkstone Growth Partners, a healthcare private equity investment group.  He has served on the Bausch and Lomb Surgical and Pharmaceutical Integration Strategic Advisory Board and is a previous member of GE Capital's Care Credit Advisory Board. He is also a frequent contributor to several national industry periodicals and speaker for industry and physician organizations.

Mr. Dawes was a contributing author of the textbook Mastering Refractive IOLs - The Art and Science. He also served as the Section Editor for Pathway to Your Perfect Practice, an ongoing series within Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, which is read by over 15,000 physicians and surgeons internationally.

Mr. Dawes resides in Sarasota with his three sons, Jake, Greyson, and Chase. They enjoy travel and active family adventures. Mr. Dawes is an adventure motorcycle enthusiast and an avid bicyclist and multi-sport athlete, having competed in multiple national and international endurance biking and adventure racing events. Mr. Dawes also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Team Tony Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides peer-to-peer support for cancer fighters.

Shannon Fagan,
Senior Consultant, Aesthetics and Recruitment

 

Shannon Fagan has over 20 years of experience in the aesthetic industry and has placed over 30 executive and managerial positions as a corporate recruiter as part of a national placement firm.  Ms. Fagan graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.  After working several years as a family and youth counselor, she earned her license as an aesthetician and became a sole proprietor of a successful skin care business and also worked as a consultant in the distribution of beauty and skin care products.

Ms. Fagan provides clients of the J. Dawes Group with expertise in the area of aesthetics, retail, hospitality and customer service.  Ms. Fagan also leads the recruitment division of the J. Dawes Group, specializing in the recruitment of surgeons, optometric physicians, and executive talent.  Through Ms. Fagan and Mr. Dawes' collective years of experience in recruitment, the J. Dawes Group has developed a 10-step process of personal and organizational discovery, science-based matching, streamlined decision-making and transaction completion - matching the right person with the right organization and position at the right time.

Ms. Fagan resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sarasota, Florida.  She is a disciplined and avid runner logging thousands of miles per year in all types of weather conditions with her daily runs.

Ulla B. Pedersen,
Senior Consultant, Compliance and Reimbursement

Ulla Pedersen brings clients of the J. Dawes group a wealth of knowledge based on experience gained over four decades of health system and medical group management with an emphasis on health insurance, managed care contracting, patient accounting, along with state and federal regulatory compliance.

Ms. Pedersen joined the J. Dawes Group after having served as the Director of Compliance for Center For Sight, one of the nation's leading ophthalmic, cosmetic and dermatology surgery groups.  Prior to that experience, Ms. Pedersen served as Practice Administrator of one of Virginia's largest pain management centers as well as managing multiple physician networks throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and providing strategic management and consulting services to a wide variety of medical specialties in upstate New York, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Georgia.

Ms. Pedersen earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Folkeuniversitetet, Copenhagen, Denmark.  After working in the style industry in Europe and Canada, Ms. Pedersen segued into U.S. health care as Business Manager and Physician/Patient Advocate with the Upstate New York Federation of Physician and Dentists, an organization dedicated to the protection of the integrity of the Physician/patient relationship during the early encroachment of managed care by health insurance companies.

Ms. Pedersen resides in Venice with Max, the cat, and enjoys yoga, reading, walking/hiking, gardening/bonsai, animals and nature, and healthy cooking.
